Was reading the papers when I came across this column by one parent who went thru all the traditional chinese 算生辰八字to get the baby an auspicious name so that the baby can grow up fully blessed.
However, the ICA issued the baby with a birth cert number which is most unfavorable to the mother x-xxxx444-x. So thinking that this negates all the hardwork that she went thru, she kb to ICA many times to get a better number but to no avail. So now she writes in the forum to say how rules and regulations should make leeway for cultural sensitivities.

Siao lor, so the ICA is supposed to give daughter X-XXXX888-X instead issit? or X-XXXX168-X? Like that then every other ethnic group/ dialect group also have their own 'pang tang' number lei, then how?
Maybe ICA should let these kiasu/ kiasi parents bid for their babies' birthcert number instead? Like bid for car plate number or handphone number like that lor, the highest bidder will get all the auspicious numbers la.
