Story of 2 MaidensChapter OneIn a land where the absolute powers lie in the hands of one evil queen and where the nobles dare not utter a word that the queen's ears disapprove of, life of the ordinary peasants were hard.
But the peasants were happy. They had each other to turn to whenever the going gets tough, and although work isn't always pleasant, there's always the occassional after work activities to look forward to, like a drink in the taverns or a simple get together, with good food and good company.
Among the peasants, there were 2 maidens who happened to be friends with the 2 nobles in charge of running the town which they live and work in. The maidens decided that life as peasants were too tough and they aspired to be among the ranks of the nobles. And as such, they began plotting behind the backs of whom they once called friends.
They did things which they knew would please the nobles, even if that means stabbing their friends behind their backs. Some of the p[easants noticed that the maidens often conversed secretly in dark corners, as if plotting something. In the begining, they were very discrete, betraying those who are old, soft spoken or the weak, but as they gain more recognition from the higher ups, they began to walk with their noses in the air, displaying an air of borrowed authority. Gone were the smiles and greetings, they will not so much as give those whom they deemed to be of a lower status than them, a second glance even as they walked right past them.
The rest of the peasants began to distant themselves from the maidens, they were disgusted and angry but there was nothing they could do as the maidens were in the good books of the nobles and word has it that one of them were even praised once by the evil queen.
And so, the remaining peasants do all that they could to avoid direct confrontation with the noble wannabes and at the same time dropping hints that they were no longer welcome in the group. And it seems now that the maidens had noticed the tension and the hostility, for they had stopped joining the rest of the peasants for their noon time break from work.
Words had spread even among the nobles of the maidens' behaviour and among those who do not really get along well with the evil queen and were secretly friends of the peasants, they too sensed the tension and avoided contact with the maidens, shaking their heads in disgust as they watched from far.
Just when it seems that the noble wannabes were having their time, the 2 nobles that were so protective of the maidens were no longer in charge of their town. And so, a twist of fate and they have now lost their backing and the trust of fellow peasants.
What will become of the maidens? Will they repent and beg for forgiveness and acceptance? Or will they continue to work towards their dream of gaining nobility? And what will the rest of the peasants do? Please stay tuned for Chapter 2...
