The Spirit of Giving:
Someone once told me, to be able to give is a blessing. It shows that you have abundance and a big heart to be able to give... In my opinion, it does not matter the real motive behind the giving, it could be because of the condo in charity shows (before the NKF saga) or to pass time or a genuine desire to contribute back to society for what you have gained from it... As long as it benefits the needy and the under privileged, it should not really matter rite?
But what if we run out of abundance, in terms of our resources and we cannot give anymore, say due other priorities in life or under cicumstances. Are we then the bad guys for forsaking those who has grown dependant on our giving? Of course as can be seen from all the charity shows, the hosts often used 'tactics' to tug at your heartstrings to loosen your purse strings to give more so that you have help them achieve the target that they have set. But since when do people set targets for how much they are gonna recieve from people who are willing to give? Does giving less than the expected target imply that we are not as compassionate as we would like to think we are?
I think after a while, people tend to forget the true meaning of giving. Of course there is always this conflict of interest between those who simply gives and those who are in committees looking after the well being of the beneficiaries that they are helping... Although at the end of the day, we are still working towards the same cause which I think is good, but the way that we are doing things may need to be relooked at... I mean whatever it is, at the end of the day, the key word is still 'voluntary' and the most important thing is 'happiness' for those who give and those who receive...
